Ballard Corners Park | Seattle, WA

Peter provided civil to create a biodiverse frontage improvement adjacent to the Ballard Corners Park on 17th Ave NW in the Ballard area of Seattle.  The project included the design of a curvilinear sidewalk and curb bulbs which contained bioretention cells or rain gardens which provided stormwater flow attenuation and provided for natural filtration and infiltration.  The bioretention cells treat and retain stormwater from the existing street and right-of-way.  Autoturn vehicular movements were modeled to analyze the horizontal layout of the curb bulbs which were located near existing traffic circles at the intersecting streets north and south of the project.  The curb bulbs provide traffic calming and also a place for the cells to flourish along the street edge.  Peter acted as the Project Manager for the civil design and worked with the Seattle Department of Transportation and Seattle Public Utilities to obtain a SDOT Street Improvement Permit the project.
